There are multiple factors that contribute to selecting for the microbiome, including host genetics. Flavobacterium psychrophilum, the causative agent of Bacterial Cold Water Disease in salmonids, accounts for acute losses in wild and farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).
