On October 9, 2018, the rapidly expanding world of allergy and immunology got a little bit smaller as the field lost a great son, scholar, healer, advocate, innovator, and friend in William T. Shearer, MD, PhD. "Bill," as he always introduced himself, and "Dr Shearer," to which he was always referred, devoted his life to the field of allergy and immunology, and his impact is hard to conceive. Although he was perhaps best known for being David (the "bubble boy") Vetter's physician, Bill's quiet and gentile disposition led to his impact and reach being incompletely appreciated.
