Healthcare and discourse: exploration of interprofessional learning within a Brazilian context.

Authors: Sarantópoulos A, Pereira JA, Lamas JLT, Silva EM Abstract This paper reports a qualitative study on the contribution of a Program of Education through Work (PET) in Healthcare, based at a Brazilian State University, to interprofessional education. Data were collected from ten undergraduate students of Nursing, Medicine, and Phonoaudiology (speech therapy), who were part of PET at the University. Data were analyzed using the Discourse of the Collective Subject technique. Central ideas were gathered into three categories: (1) teamwork and interprofessionality; (2) PET influences on SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System); (3) teaching-service-community integration. The study found evidence that PET enabled the students with opportunities to be involved in an education that su...

Facile synthetic Photoluminescent Graphene Quantum dots encapsulated β-cyclodextrin drug carrier system for the management of macular degeneration: Detailed analytical and biological investigations

Publication date: Available online 26 October 2018Source: Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: BiologyAuthor(s): Cheng Qian, Panshi Yan, Guangming Wan, Shenzhi Liang, Yi Dong, Jiong WangAbstractDrug administration by effective nano-carriers is an emerging and growing technology in the field of bio-medicine and particularly Age –related macular degeneration (AMD). This developed nanomaterials based methods with drug administration maximizes the biocompatibility and systemically increases drug delivery profile for the drugs. Herein, we described the effective drug molecules delivery profiles by the hydrothermally synthesized graphene quantum dots (GQDs) encapsulated with supramolecular β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as a drug delivery system for AMD. The drug release profiles were analys...

A multimodal approach to the voicing contrast in Turkish: Evidence from simultaneous measures of acoustics, intraoral pressure and tongue palatal contacts

Publication date: November 2018Source: Journal of Phonetics, Volume 71Author(s): Özlem Ünal-Logacev, Susanne Fuchs, Leonardo LanciaAbstractThe aims of the study are to investigate acoustic, aerodynamic and supralaryngeal properties of the voicing contrast in Turkish and to better understand the relation between these factors in the maintenance and inhibition of phonetic voicing. For this purpose, simultaneous recordings were carried out using electropalatography, a piezoresistive pressure transducer and a microphone for six speakers of Turkish. The voiced /d, dʒ/ and voiceless /t, tʃ/ target sounds occurred in word-initial position in intervocalic context. Single time points were selected to study the voicing contrast and its corresponding properties. The most pronounced differences be...

Cognitive linguistics and the public mind: Idealist doctrines, materialist histories

This article explores 'political' dimensions of the Cognitive Linguistics (CL) movement, considered especially with reference to Ronald Langacker and George Lakoff. CL is discussed with respect to the institutional politics necessary for disciplinary survival in a changing US higher education system, and the broader socio-political circumstances of the field's origins and development. These factors intersect in Lakoff, responsible both for many of CL's major theoretical innovations, and for an assertive application of CL ideas in the public sphere. An exploration of Lakoff's political contributions allows affinities between CL and humanities research in the postmodern mainstream to be identified, and CL's overall position in the history of twentieth century linguistics and other humani...

Subjective ratings of age-of-acquisition: exploring issues of validity and rater reliability.

This study aimed to investigate concerns of validity and reliability in subjective ratings of age-of-acquisition (AoA), through exploring characteristics of the individual rater. An additional aim was to validate the obtained AoA ratings against two corpora - one of child speech and one of adult speech - specifically exploring whether words over-represented in the child-speech corpus are rated with lower AoA than words characteristic of the adult-speech corpus. The results show that less than one-third of participating informants' ratings are valid and reliable. However, individuals with high familiarity with preschool-aged children provide more valid and reliable ratings, compared to individuals who do not work with or have children of their own. The results further show a significant, ag...

Multicenter methodology comparison of the FDA and ISO standard for measurement of in vitro UVA protection of sunscreen products

Publication date: Available online 26 October 2018Source: Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: BiologyAuthor(s): S. Bielfeldt, E. Klette, M. Rohr, B. Herzog, J. Grumelard, C. Hanay, U. Heinrich, P. Hansen, D. Kockott, J. Lademann, C. Mendrok-Edinger, S. Peters, T. Rudolph, T. Schläger, H. Tronnier, S. Wiechers, L. Zastrow, F. PflückerAbstractIn vitro standard methods are available and accepted worldwide to assess UVA protection of sunscreen products. Though, harmonisation of methods has made progress in the last decade, still two differing methods - one by FDA the other by ISO - are in use. In a multicentre study including 9 centres in Germany, 4 different commercial sunscreen products were assessed using both methods to discover their similarities and differences. UVA protectio...

Leistenschmerzen beim Sportler

Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund
