Cesarean delivery has been proposed as a risk factor for asthma and atopic disease in offspring. Preterm birth and low birth weight have also been linked to increased risk of asthma. However, little is known about the effect of perinatal characteristics on the development of food allergy. In this issue, using data from Swedish national health care registers on more than 1 million children, Mitselou et al (p 1510) examine the association between perinatal conditions and future risk of food allergy.
