Adequate phonation is self-regulated by auditory feedback. Children with bilateral profound hearing loss (PHL) lack this feedback resulting in abnormal voice. Adequate hearing aid use and auditory-verbal therapy (AVT) may improve voice quality in deaf children. (Source: Journal of Voice)
