In Reply to Letter to the Editor

We thank Dr. Tomsic for her appreciation of our article (1). She reiterates the claim that academic productivity is not held in high regard in many of the oral and maxillofacial surgery training programs. Furthermore, Dr. Tomsic points out that the lack of clear academic guidelines from the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) does not aid the specialty in its pursuit of academic advancement. We agree with her claims and are quite optimistic that times will change with regard to this stagnating phenomenon.
