Raising the Lingual Flap for Impacted Teeth - Foolhardy or Facilitative?

Introduction: Traditionally, the surgical approach to the lingually impacted teeth involves raising a buccal flap, bone removal and sectioning of the tooth as necessary, religiously avoiding raising a lingual flap in fear of complications, mostly damage to the lingual nerve. In our experience, raising the lingual flap provides better access, minimal bone removal and less operating time, with very minimal or no complication, whilst preserving the lingual nerve.
