Given the complex form and function present in the maxilla and midface, reconstruction of the midface can be particularly challenging. All attempts to reconstruct the midface are best guided by attempting to preserve the functions of the oral cavity, orbit and sinus cavities which abut in the maxilla. While maxillary defects can be treated with a number of approaches, advances in virtual surgical planning and 3-D printing technology have made autologous reconstruction more functional and predictable.1,2,3 With the advent of computer-assisted 3D modeling, surgical planning took a giant leap forward allowing for the first time for surgeons to work with an exact replica of the surgical site.
