Publication date: Available online 3 November 2018Source: LinguaAuthor(s): Weifeng Han, Amanda MüllerAbstractLi et al. (2018) claimed that a single negation (SN) interpretation is possible for double negation (DN) structures in Mandarin Chinese (MC) when a DN sentence has a combination of the negation operators méi(yŏu)-méi(yŏu) (not-not), bù-méi(yŏu) (not-not), cóngláiméi/cóngláibù-X (ever no-not), or méi(yŏu)-bù (not-not), and when there is stress on the second negation operator. This discussion questions the test materials and choice of participants, calling into doubt the findings of Li et al. (2018). (Source: Lingua)
