Mandibular Buccal Bifurcation Cyst Mimicking Pericoronitis

Introduction: Mandibular buccal bifurcation cysts (MBBC) are rare inflammatory odontogenic cysts, first described by Stoneman and Worth in 1983, occurring in children aged 6–13 years around erupting, vital first molar teeth. It is often misdiagnosed as a dentigerous cyst, lateral radicular cyst or pericoronitis. We present a 6 year-old patient who was referred from secondary care with pericoronitis of a lower right first molar tooth. Closer examination revealed a likely MBBC.
