There is substantial literature exploring the history of various aspects of oncology, spanning multiple languages and across continents. However, the authors were unable to find any papers depicting the comprehensive development of oral cancer management throughout the ages. What follows is an attempt to chart the history of oral cancer and its associated surgical concepts, with an aim to provide a general overview of key events and prominent figures. In Part One of this series, the authors will explore the very early concepts of oral cancer, taking the reader on a journey commencing in Ancient Egyptian times and concluding with the Dawn of Scientific Medicine in the 19th century.
