Postoperative edema and pain are common undesirable sequelae of orthognathic surgery. It is widely accepted that corticosteroids are beneficial for their anti-inflammatory properties, and they are frequently administered as an adjunct to orofacial procedures. However, current studies demonstrate a wide range in corticosteroid dosing regimens for orofacial surgery, and there is no evidence to suggest that one regimen is superior to another1. Additionally, there is no standardized dosing regimen for corticosteroids in orthognathic surgery2.
