Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC) is a preservative with highly effective fungicide, parasiticide and bactericide properties. It was authorized in concentrations below 1000 ppm in cosmetics since 1996,1 and it is now widely used in shampoos, lotions, creams, powders and baby products. IPBC also has widespread application in household products (dish washing liquids), in paints and coatings, and in the wood industry.2 Although traditionally considered of low allergenic potential, in the last years an increasing number of cases of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) have been reported.3‐6
