Influence of Hydrophobic Cargo Binding on the Structure, Stability, and Allergenicity of the Cockroach Allergen Bla g 1

The rate of endosomal processing of allergens by antigen presenting cells has been suggested to influence sensitization. In addition, allergens often occur in the presence of lipids and other hydrophobic ligands, which also influence allergenicity. Due to its ability to bind a variety of hydrophobic cargoes, the cockroach allergen Bla g 1 was used as a model system to probe for a potential connection between antigen processing and lipid delivery, and the molecular mechanisms underlying this interaction.
