Challenging Diagnosis of a Plasmacytic Cell Tumor in the Maxilla

A 59-year-old Caucasian man was referred for evaluation of a painless mass in the maxilla, with a duration of 30 days, previously diagnosed as dental abscess and treated with antibiotics. Clinical examination revealed a large mass in the right posterior maxilla, also affecting the hard palate, with an erythematous mucosa and soft consistency. Computed tomography showed complete maxillary sinus involvement; an incisional biopsy was performed with the clinical hypothesis of lymphoma or metastasis.
