Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence and clinical characteristics of referred pain in patients who were diagnosed with painful TMDs and were included in the RDC/TMD Validation and TMD Impact Studies. A second objective was to identify factors associated with the presence and persistence of referred pain, including Symptom Check List-90 (SCL-90) scores, number of bodily pain sites, and Graded Chronic Pain Scale (GCPS) scores. A third objective was to assess the impact of referred pain on the course and prognosis of TMDs.
